emacs25-nox software package provides GNU Emacs editor (without GUI support), you can install in your Debian 9 (Stretch) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install emacs25-nox
emacs25-nox is installed in your system.
Make ensure the emacs25-nox package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep emacs25-nox *
You will get with emacs25-nox package name, version, architecture and description in a table
